Monthly Favourites // October

I honestly don’t know where this year is going! It is crazy to think that next month is Christmas and my birthday. October was definitely a hectic month and all I could think about was going on holiday. Last month I didn’t have too many favourites as I haven’t tried out many new things but I did find a few old favourites that I have brought out again.


The one favourite I did buy this month was a Millie Marotta colouring book. Now I know I am a bit late on the band waggon with this one but I never really understood the whole hype until now! I have honestly done so many in the book and to be honest I think I spend way too much time on each page but I have been loving it. Colouring really is therapeutic and I have thoroughly enjoyed it.

My next favourite is my Bath and Bodyworks Twisted Peppermint Shower gel and Body lotion. Now that the festive season is coming up I have brought these gems back out to use. Needless to say, I am very excited about Christmas.

Last but not least, the fake tan. Winter is over here in Australia and that means I need to tan up the body ready for my real tan. As always I am loving my Bondi Sands.Processed with VSCO with f2 preset Although lately, I have been using the dark foam rather than the lotion form. I have never been very good at fake tan so I tend to stay away from the foam, but I thought I would just bite the bullet and use it and so far so good!

Pamper Evenings

I love a good pamper night, especially when I am not feeling so great. I thought I had got away with not getting a cold or the flu this winter season but I was wrong. There is nothing worse than feeling poorly and all you want to do is stay in bed day after day. Then you finally get the energy to have a shower and it is like you are a new person. I haven’t been nearly as bad this time and have actually managed to have the energy to shower everyday. As it is Sunday today, I thought I would take some extra time out of my day and just relax and have a nice pamper session.

I tend to have a routine when I want to really relax and pamper myself. I start by cleaning my room, this always makes me feel so much better and it just helps to declutter the mind when you have a clean space. Then I will pick out some comfy pyjamas and bed socks and set them on my bed. I’ll then head to the bathroom and pick a Lush Bath bomb or Bubble Bar. I’ll run a nice hot bath and just soak in there for about 30 minutes. This really helps to clear the sinuses especially when you are sick. After I have had a bath I will usually have a quick shower just to rinse off and wash my hair.

Once I get out I’ll wrap my hair in a hair turban. Then I will apply a nice thick body lotion. At the moment I have been using the Zoella Beauty Creamy Madly Dreamy Body Lotion. I love this becuase it soaks in super quickly and doesn’t leave my skin feeling greasy. Then I’ll light a candle. Depending on how my skin situation is going, ill probably use a face mask as well. When I am sick I love the Soap and Glory No Clogs Allowed. This mask is great when you are sick because it has that menthol sort of scent which helps clear your nose. It also heats up on your face which feels really relaxing. I will leave this on for about 5-10 minutes and then wash it off with a warm face cloth. I also really enjoy sheet masks when I am sick. My personal favourites are a Korean brand SKIN79. They have a great variety for different skin problems. Once my face is super clean I’ll moisturise it and apply spot cream to any spots if I need to.

After all my hygienic pampering is done I like to head downstairs and make a cup of tea. I mean usually it will be a classic English Breakfast but when I am sick I like something more herbal. Today I decided to have a mint matcha. I’ll then take my tea upstairs and I’ll set up my bed and watch a movie or catch up on a tv show. At the moment I am catching up on Keeping up with the Kardashian because I am a sucker for reality tv.

This pamper routine is great for any day of the week and any occasion. It is really nice to include take some time out of your week at least once as it encourages you to just be yourself, relax and rewind. That’s why I like to do it Sunday afternoons/nights as it helps me prepare for the week.

Plans for the future

I have only just started my blog but I plan on working on it a lot this year as I have really been enjoying writing the blog posts and reading your comments. It is amazing how quickly people find your blog and how lovely people are when they do comment.

One thing I have found difficult when starting a blog is coming up with ideas. I have written a few ideas down of what I would like to write about and I plan on coming up with a few series (such as a what I eat in a day), which I will probably do every 1-2 weeks. Any ideas from you would also be much appreciated as it will help me discover what you are interested in reading about.

I am really looking forward to getting to know more fellow bloggers who have the same interests as I do and it would mean the world to me if you got in contact or followed me on my social medias so I can get to know you better and see what great ideas you have. (I have recently just joined Bloglovin) Also link your blogs in the comments so I can check them out and we can follow eachother!

“Healthy” Banana Muffins 

Today my friend and I decided we wanted to bake something. I thought why not write a blog post about what we baked. So here it is our “Healthy” Banana Muffins. As a nutrition student I am always looking for ways to consume less processed food and try to make my own versions using more natural ingredients. Now we all know how good a processed chocolate cake or a really nice bakery banana bread is, but we don’t always know what goes into them. On the other side of the situation, “healthy” foods always get a bad name for being bland or boring. Which I am the first to admit that yes this may be true but that’s only because you are not making the most of the things like spices which can completely change a meal. These muffins were not the best banana muffins I have ever had but they were definitely a good healthy alternative and really helped hit the sweet craving. The bananas could have been a bit more ripe which would have helped enhance their flavour, but all in all I was very happy with how they turned out! It may seem like there are a lot of ingredients but you basically just measure them all out and then mixed them together.

We started by mixing all the wet ingredients in the Kitchen Aid until they were all well combined.

Then we added the dry ingredients until everything was well mixed and then transferred them into muffin tins.

Now the recipe we took inspiration from said it made 11 muffins, like who makes 11 muffins? Muffin tins come in a set of 12 for a reason. As you can see from the picture above we were able to make 12 muffins from the mixture.

We then baked them in a preheated oven at 165 c for about 15 minutes, but they did need a few extra minutes so it ended up being about 20 minutes cooking time.

As a result the muffins turned out pretty well! They tasted better than I expected and definitely a healthier alternative to your traditional banana muffins.

As you can probably tell the pictures weren’t great but we thought it would be a good opportunity for me to try out something different. I will definitely be trying to improve my photography skills as I further with this blog. I hope you enjoyed reading and if you can think of any healthy recipes I should try out let me know!

  • 1/3 cup of melted coconut oil
  • 1/2 cup of honey
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup of mashed banana
  • 1/4 cup of almond milk
  • 1 tsp of baking soda
  • 2 tsp of vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp of salt
  • 1/2 tsp of cinnamon
  • 1 3/4 cup of wholemeal spelt flour
  • 1/3 cup of oats
